Oooh! Now we're cookin'!
My brain has been firing on all cylinders lately. Well, it usually fires on all cylinders, but lately I've been getting my organizing skills in order. I may be old school, but I must sing the praises of Notepad. Every time a new app comes out like Notion or, um, other things like Notion, I'm tempted to try them. But somehow, they always seem like they have too many bells and whistles when all I want to do is write the thing down that's been swimming in my head.
If I don't use Notepad (which, let's be honest, is very few times), I'm a sticky pad girl. Or I take my old calendar pages or things I've printed and rip them down to smaller pages to make random notes I leave myself.
It's part of a larger system where I'm learning to be kind to myself. How? Well, I'm glad you asked, dear reader. :-)
My brain always seems to carry so much that I feel exhausted and weighted down by the end of the day. There's also characters, stories, things to do, storylines, story ideas, worlds, what-ifs that spark new ideas, settings, random facts, random songs, random movie quotes, and who knows what else swimming in my mind that it's nice to just sit and clear the noise sometimes. Like a computer, it builds up a ton of cache that goes into the 'Temporary Folder' of my mind, and whenever things come up story-related, my trusty Notepad or piece of paper is right there to take it down for later. It's saved me from the 'Oh shinies' many a time (okay, most times, to be honest), but at least my brainspace doesn't feel so cluttered like it usually does.
But, boy, does that 'Books to Write' folder fill up pretty fast...
But, you know what? I'm good with that. Because it works. And we love things that make our lives just a tad easier. ;-)
